I used to be a MLM junky ... i.e. I joined many MLM businesses. All this while, I'd never made money from any MLMs until recently . Only my uplines made money through my efforts. I'd became very disillusion about MLM. If you look at any MLM model, it has always been the ones who joined later worked for those so called "leaders" who joined first and they are more interested in recruiting you and benefit from your purchases. They would encourage you to buy and keep stock to push up their sales to get qualify for promotion and better commission compensation.

Theory wised, MLM is a good business model. As many hands make things easy, it has its attractiveness. The business model is good but unfortunately not the people. Yup, people is the one who will screw you up in MLM biz. Most MLM conduct rah rah type of seminars or workshop to attract people to join. People are emotional creature. Most will get excited when they see so many people are excited. They got influenced easily by the hype and herd instinct.

Once I attended a so called eCommerce talk which is actually a MLM selling health products. The speaker talked a lot about eCommerce and get an old lady to give a testimony on stage how she can make $30,000 a month by using the ecommerce platform touted by the speaker. Then the speaker did a demonstration on the effectiveness of the products. From the 150 odd participants, more than 80 of them signed up and cough up more than $2000 each to buy stock so that they can attend the so-called expert training for ecommerce conducted by the said speaker. I am not daft enough to fall for this trick.

I am sharing here with you some of my experiences with MLM . Hopefully, you'd learn something from my bad experiences.

At that time, I was helping a friend in his golf business. This guy decides to join Company LB, a MLM company dealing in aromatherapy. This aromatherapy is different from those in the market as there is no naked fire (so no risk of catching fire), gives off oxygen, kills bacteria and viruses, therapeutic and good for health and ambience. Product is fantastic.

Five of us decided to form a partnership to buy stock (approximately $60,000) to buy a position. Upline is very happy. After the purchase, he hands off us. We have to learn how to swim or sink ourselves.

Anyway, the business did not work out and it was closed within a year. We have to distribute the stock amongst the partners. As I was not cash rich, I've to borrow from the bank to cough up my share of the capital of the partnership. It took me 6 years to clear off this debt.

Subsequently I joined a stockbroker firm as a financial planner. One of my colleague who had joined this Company LB wants me to join his team especially when he realised that I'd already attained the position of a Count. I refused. He got angry. LOL

MLM networkers can lose a lot of friends.

This company is a MLM on telephony using call back. As 15 years back, making overseas calls can be very expensive. As at that point of time, I need to make frequent overseas calls, I am looking for an alternative and cheaper way to make overseas calls.

A friend whom I don't really like tried to recruit me to join but I refused. I join through my manager (my boss in GE). When ,my friend saw me in the meeting, he got very pissed and angry. This guy always wants to be "leader" in MLM. He would not listen or join your business in MLM but always wants you to join him. I classify this type of MLM leader as : TURKEY. More on that later.

Never join a turkey team in any MLM. You will simply get disillusioned and drop out.

This MLM company is from US and have been very successful and has been around for more than 10 years. It runs a very successful pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in USA. They are very heavy into R & D and has many fantastic products. However the products are pricey. Distributors must maintain auto-ship or else not eligible for commission.

During that time, I was a RC member. One PA manager whom I know resigned and joined Company N full-time. Wow, I thought, it must be a good deal for him since he was a MBA holder and making good money from PA. This guy was doing the MLM business with his Chinese girl friend. So when he approached me, I was very opened and decided to join his team.

I was very wrong in my perception. This guy did not resigned willingly but was given the sack by PA. I learn this from my RC chairman. Since I already committed to the business, I just try to do my best. We went out meeting people trying to recruit them to the business. We even went overseas to attend so called conferences. And this SOG asked me to pay first for him and his girl friend the costs of going overseas. Then he play delay tactics not to pay me back. Subsequently, his girl friend called me telling me that he had died while sleeping due to heart attack. I've to write off $400. My late mother who was taking the product regularly then stopped taking it because she said that my friend so young still die. The product therefore is not effective. Well, what can I say?

Half year ago, while waiting for MRT, I received a call from a RC member friend. She said she saw me in MRT and wants to have a cup of coffee with me. I sensed that she was trying to introduce or sell me something. True enough, she was trying to convince me to join Company N. I refused and she became agitated. Anyway, later on I learn that she plans to migrate to Canada. 

Luckily I never listen to her. This is a MLM chicken. More on that later.

I was influenced by a colleague to join company NI as he promised me that I can make it good with his "good" support as we going to work as a "team".

Then this SOG started to pressurize me to buy stock to keep so that he can get promoted. Stupidly I listened to him and bought few thousands dollars worth of stock thinking that I will be able to dispose them off. I was very wrong. Not only I was unable to dispose off the stock, I ended up having to consume them myself. While the products are very good, I still felt that I am being duped. Anyway, I'd to throw many of the stock away as the stock validity date expired.

The promises made by this SOG upline never materialized. Anyway, I decided to stop getting involved in this MLM company.

This is the same turkey who has been recommending me to join various MLM and never successful in any.

Singapore government realised that many of the old folks are computer illiterate. To push these people to learn computer, the government gives out study grants to citizens of Singapore.

A computer school took advantage of this grants and invite many old folks to take computer courses through the school. They implement a MLM system to attract people to join. My friend was in it and he recruited me. As computer business is picking up at that point of time, I agreed.

The school attract people to join by offering a $50 discount. Thousand of people join and the school did brisk business. Commission was also paid to the affiliates who recruit students for the school.

Unfortunately, this is illegal and the school get into big trouble with the government. Subsequently, after a major investigation, the managing director was jailed for 4 years and the school closed.

Lesson: Don't play play with government funds. LOL

This is one of the worst MLM I joined. Get conned recently. I met one ex PRC who dragged me to her talk on O2O. I was impressed because the office is posh and expensive. As I am into helping clients to get more customers, I was attracted for their O2O platform.

So I paid USD110 to be member but the crap upline wanted me to cough up USD10K to buy OTC/Nasdaq shares of their company. I am not daft to do that. So I delay her and she kept hassle me to invest.

Then I investigate and do due diligence about the said company. There are hundreds of bad reviews. One of the major complaint is that the said company and its recruiters are not transparent with information when they recruit people. Even the company web site don't have a proper customer service support link. The company also did not send emails directly to new recruits on the business. All the information is supplied by the upline only. Very very bad user experience.

When the stupid upline knew that I am not going to cough up the USD10K, she started to "chute pattern" with me. First she booted me out of the chat group giving excuses that since I am not interested to invest, I don't need to be on it. Then she deny me the access to register merchants for the company by telling me that she already posted details on chat group which I am booted out. The company is equally not transparent with information.

As such, I terminated my account with this said company. For one, I don't think it is legal for her to canvass for OTC/Nasdaq as she may not have the license from MAS. I found out from the review that commission is 50%. No wonder she worked so hard to hassle other to join.

Worst thing is this female crap uses one of my good friend’s name to induce me to join. She was telling me that my firiend, a trainer on WeChat, will be conducting WeChat lessons for free for members. On checking with my friend, seems that they also “chute pattern” with him three to four times cancelling the training dates last moment. He also hands off on them. He had paid USD 110 to learn his lesson.

Lessons: Never never get too impressed with posh office and hype talk. I paid USD110 to learn my lesson.

Recently, I was involved in a road show at Sembawang Country Club.

So I requested my partner to come and help out. As the entrance to the club is about 2 over km, I requested my partner to take a cab.

Then my partner told an MLM friend about it. She offers to drive my partner to the club. Then this MLM 🦀 decided to stay at the club to enjoy the festivities, free food and drink. Then she and her 2 ahlau boyfriends went to the canteen to have curry fish head.

After the roadshow, I went to the canteen to join them. This MLM🦀 offered to send us out. We accepted. But instead of dropping me at Yishun or other nearby MRT, she drove us to Novena MRT which is very far. Anywhere, while not happy, we lanlan have to accept.

Anyway, after 2 days, her ahlau boyfriend called me and invite me to their Ann Kang OPP which I refused telling him that Ann Kang bosses had already come to SCCI to pitch and I am not interested. Then this Ah Lau complained to this MLM🦀 who telephone me to give lecture for being ungrateful by not returning her kindness by accepting to go OPP. Then she complains to my partner that I am rude etc.

I told my partner off that in the future please don’t get these 🦀involved in any of our activities.

The questions are:

1. I am not the one who invited her.

2. She gate crash into the function

3. I don’t know her ahlau boyfriends. why I need to entertain them and return favour?

4. If I want to join Ann Kang, I’d have joined the bosses.

These type of MLM networkers will spoil the name of MLM. The biz model is good but the people are not.
